چکیده

In this paper, we present an adaptive approach to design the artificial boundary conditions for the two-level Schrödinger equation with conical crossings on the unbounded domain. We use the windowed Fourier transform to obtain the local wave number information in the vicinity of artificial boundaries, and adopt the operator splitting method to obtain an adaptive local artificial boundary condition. Then reduce the original problem into an initial boundary value problem on the bounded computational domain, which can be solved by the finite difference method. By this numerical method, we observe the surface hopping phenomena of the two-level Schrödinger equation with conical crossings. Several numerical examples are provided to show the accuracy and convergence of the proposed method. 2010 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

An Eulerian Surface Hopping Method for the Schrödinger Equation with Conical Crossings

In a nucleonic propagation through conical crossings of electronic energy levels, the codimension two conical crossings are the simplest energy level crossings, which affect the Born– Oppenheimer approximation in the zeroth order term. The purpose of this paper is to develop the surface hopping method for the Schrödinger equation with conical crossings in the Eulerian formulation. The approach ...

Absorbing Boundary Conditions for the Schrödinger Equation

A large number of differential equation problems which admit traveling waves are usually defined on very large or infinite domains. To numerically solve these problems on smaller subdomains of the original domain, artificial boundary conditions must be defined for these subdomains. One type of artificial boundary condition which can minimize the size of such subdomains is the absorbing boundary...

Propagation through Conical Crossings: an Asymptotic Semigroup

We consider the standard model problem for a conical intersection of electronic surfaces in molecular dynamics. Our main result is the construction of a semigroup in order to approximate the Wigner function associated with the solution of the Schrödinger equation at leading order in the semiclassical parameter. The semigroup stems from an underlying Markov process which combines deterministic t...

Normal forms for conical intersections in quantum chemistry

In quantum chemistry, the dynamics of heavy molecules is described by Schrödinger equations with energy level crossings. These crossings generate energy transfers at leading order between the modes as was earlier noticed by Landau and Zener in the 30’s. The mathematical analysis of these transfers relies on the use of normal forms. Here, we analyze the implications of Y. Colin de Verdière’s rec...

Exact Closed-Form Solution for Vibration Analysis of Truncated Conical and Tapered Beams Carrying Multiple Concentrated Masses

In this paper, an exact closed-form solution is presented for free vibration analysis of Euler-Bernoulli conical and tapered beams carrying any desired number of attached masses. The concentrated masses are modeled by Dirac’s delta functions which creates no need for implementation of compatibility conditions. The proposed technique explicitly provides frequency equation and corresponding mode ...
